Outdoor Varnish

Ronseal Outdoor Varnish is the ultimate clear varnish for exterior smooth planed wood. It provides a long lasting finish which enhances the natural beauty of the wood grain, protects it from water and U.V. damage and provides all-weather protection to prevent cracking, peeling and blistering. The varnish is also ideal for refreshing previously wood stained wood without darkening the effect.

Colours Available:

  • Clear

WHERE CAN I USE IT
Ronseal Outdoor Varnish can be applied to bare, previously varnished or previously woodstained wood and is ideal for use on doors, windows frames, garden furniture and most exterior smooth planed timber. It is especially suitable for use over already woodstained wood where the clear finish will provide added protection without darkening the effect.
WHAT SORT OF FINISH
Available in both gloss and satin finishes, Ronseal Outdoor Varnish provides a clear rich, mellow finish which enhances the beauty of the wood grain.
HOW MANY COATS
2 are normally enough but untreated wood may need 3.
COVERAGE
A 750 ml tin will normally provide enough to coat 12 square metres of wood per coat. Weathered wood may require more. Coverage depends on the absorbency of the wood.
DRYING TIMES
Recoat in 6 hours.
APPLICATION
Thorough preparation is the key to maximum performance. The durability of this product can be impaired by an unsound or poorly prepared surface. For bare wood, ensure the wood is clean and dry. Lightly sand to remove any loose wood fibres and wipe off any dirt, dust and grease with white spirit. For previously varnished or woodstained exterior wood, sand to provide a key then wash with white spirit to remove any dirt, dust and grease. Any coating in a loose or poor condition should be removed. Previously painted surfaces must be completely stripped before application. For the best possible finish use a good quality brush. Stir well before and during use. Apply even coats and finish in the direction of the wood grain. Apply a minimum of 3 coats to bare wood and 2 coats to previously varnished or woodstained exterior wood allowing 6 hours between coats. When applying to unsealed hardwoods dilute the first coat with up to 15% white spirit.
CLEAN UP AND MAINTENANCE
Wash brushes out in white spirit after use. If Ronseal Outdoor Varnish is applied correctly in accordance with the can instructions, it will last for up to 4 years on hardwood surfaces, and up to 3 years on softwood surfaces. Horizontal or very exposed surfaces may require more frequent treatment. It is advisable to inspect these areas regularly and retreat as necessary.
